26'Behold the Dark Lord reborn!' The Dragon shouts to its fellows, but then its triumphant expression falls as it turns to you. 'Master, you must advance to the top of the tower and free us from the plague that besieges our fell city, but beware, for there lies a foe of unfathomable power. We were instructed to kill you on sight by this foe, and if you had not borne the Badge of Rank, we would have followed through unthinkingly. He waits for you above, as does our salvation.' With a nod, you start up the stairs to the top of the tower, ready to fulfill your destiny. Yet, as you do, you feel a slight tingling along your neck, as if something were amiss. There lies an emptiness inside, as if where once there was only a streak of pure unadulterated darkness, there now is a great gaping void, one which seems to fill you with a presence other than your own. 'I expected you to come,' a voice laden with ire speaks to you. You have reached the top of the Tower, and now from its top you can see the entirety of the city and its attackers below. But it is a sight you share with one you thought to be an old mentor, one who has followed you on all your travels, one you thought owed you unwavering loyalty. You share it with Lakaast. The Xagash looks at you, his upper lips snarling around his snout, his fangs bared in distaste. 'I should have known those fool Nadziranim would never stop one as you, but I would have never guessed that you would have survived the battles down below. I should have known better.' He draws a huge double-bladed axe that glows dimly in the confines of the tower. 'Nevertheless, though you have now attained the full glory of one of darkness, this little item should do the trick, for now, young Dark Lord, you shall meet your doom. Prepare to meet Naar!' If you wish to ask Lakaast why he has betrayed you, turn to 34. If you only wish to proceed with combat, turn to 46. |
